Wassim Malas Elected to Common Cause Wisconsin Board

Menomonee Falls Civic Leader and Attorney Joins Reform Advocacy Group

Wassim Malas, an attorney and resident of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and the current executive director of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA), was elected to the State Advisory Board of Common Cause in Wisconsin (CC/WI), Wisconsin’s largest non-partisan political reform advocacy organization with more than 8,000 members and activists. The election took place on December 7th during the CC/WI Board’s quarterly meeting in Madison.

 

Malas founded his own law practice, Hilal Law LLC in Menomonee Falls and has headed WMCA for the past year. The Milwaukee native is a Marquette University graduate and earned his JD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an LLM in Taxation from the University of San Diego.  

 

After his election to the CC/WI Board, Malas said, “Free speech, fair trials, and transparent free and fair elections are the bedrock of American civil society. Common Cause Wisconsin dedicates its time and resources to ensuring that last principle in an effective, proactive, nonpartisan and inclusive manner. If I can play even a small part towards furthering that goal, this will be a worthwhile endeavor."

 

CC/WI Co-Chair Penny Bernard Schaber of Appleton said, "The addition of Wassim Malas to our board will help Common Cause Wisconsin continue to work on good government issues. We are excited to begin this new legislative session with an emphasis on bipartisan efforts supporting good government."

 

David Deininger, the other CC/WI Co-Chair who is from Monroe added, "With so much of our work involving campaign finance and election law and proposed legislation in those areas, I am happy to welcome another member with a legal background to the CC/WI Advisory Board, Wassim Malas. I look forward to working with him and the rest of our board in the months ahead to promote best practices for responsive and transparent government in Wisconsin."

 

In addition to Co-Chairs Penny Bernard Schaber and David Deininger and now, Wassim Malas, the CC/WI Board is comprised of Tim Cullen of Janesville, Mary Lynne Donohue of Sheboygan, Kristin Hansen of Waukesha, William Hotz of Brookfield, E. Michael McCann of Pewaukee, Kriss Marion of Blanchardville, Calvin Potter of Sheboygan Falls, and Wanda Sloan of Beloit.
